It doesn’t look like much on the surface. Hell, it’s not even on the surface; it’s in the basement. Because beyond the windowless walls, dusty surfaces and friendly mice and roaches is an eternal magic. If you stay at this place long enough, you can leave a mark that, in one way or another, can stand the test of time.
Malik Hines isn’t the only big man to be departing the Massachusetts men’s basketball team before the start of next season. According to Matt Vautour of the Daily Hampshire Gazette, sophomore forward Chris Baldwin has also asked coach Matt McCall for his release from UMass. Baldwin joined the Minutemen as a true freshman in 2016 but never became a consistent starter.
The junior at UMass has raised over $10,000 for the American Liver Foundation
Marathon Monday was 23 days away when Lindsey Cunniff attempted her most intimidating training session yet: a 21-mile run stretching from Hopkinton to Newton, Massachusetts — th
Lot 11 will be home to UMass students looking to tailgate once again this Friday. The Massachusetts football team will play its spring game on Friday at 6 p.m. Though the game doesn’t count and the intensity level is minimal, fans and students can get a preseason look at the Minutemen. A redshirt senior, Ford will be playing his first UMass game without hometown friend and teammate Adam Breneman.
Breneman retires, Northeastern eliminates UMass hockey, Minutewomen complete road trip. While students were off enjoying spring break, Massachusetts athletics continued to roll. Both men’s basketball and hockey reached the conclusion of their seasons, while football standout Adam Breneman reached the conclusion of his playing career.
Showing resiliency and heart, the Massachusetts men’s basketball team played its second-round Atlantic 10 Tournament game vs. George Mason much like how it played every game of the 2017-18 season. The heart the Minutemen showed, though, wasn’t enough to propel them over the Patriots, leaving them to a season-ending 80-75 defeat.
Carl Pierre has had to grow up fast as a freshman with the Massachusetts men’s basketball team. On Wednesday, he played 35 minutes on the biggest stage of his young career in the opening round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Pierre scored 11 points and picked up six rebounds en route to the Minutemen’s 69-67 win over La Salle.
Anderson, the Massachusetts men’s basketball team’s 85-75 win over Duquesne Saturday night was more like the end of a chapter than a permanent ending. Prior to the game, the senior was honored for his commitment to the program over the last four years, and in the final seconds of the game he walked off the court as the Mullins Center crowd giving him a standing ovation.
With March days away, the Massachusetts men’s basketball team is depleted, tired and, as coach Matt McCall put it, “broken down.”. A heartbreaking loss to George Mason was an example of Luwane Pipkins-less University of Massachusetts showing grit without having much pop. As the Atlantic 10 conference tournament nears, the Minutemen finish up their season at Richmond on Wednesday and vs.
Goanar Mar went to the free throw line hoping to keep George Mason alive. The battered Massachusetts men’s basketball team had clawed its way to a lead with less than a second on the clock. Mar’s missed 3-pointer at the buzzer should have ended things, but Unique McLean was called for the foul, giving the freshman forward three uncontested chances to send the game to overtime.
Despite Luwane Pipkins dropping 31 points the Massachusetts men’s basketball team added to its loss column Saturday vs. UMass (11-16, 4-10 Atlantic 10) attempted to stage a late game comeback but came up five points short, the Wildcats won 83-78. Struggling with the roster, UMass coach Matt McCall was forced to play three walk-ons.
The Massachusetts men’s basketball team will be gaining a player for a change. UMass football quarterback Randall West will walk-on to the men’s basketball team for the final six games of the 2017-18 season, according to UMass Athletics. The addition comes a week after Chris Baldwin elected to have surgery on his injured quad, ending his season.
Unique McLean didn’t lead the Massachusetts men’s basketball team in scoring during the Minutemen’s 86-82 victory over Dayton. He wasn’t even in the top four. McLean recorded seven points over the course of regulation plus two overtimes, but his final four were among the biggest of the game and his young career.
Some teams require near perfection in order to be beaten. No. 22 Rhode Island has been one of those teams in 2018; while the Massachusetts men’s basketball team was good, it wasn’t perfect. Tuesday night’s game ended like so many for the Rams, with another win; this time URI defeated UMass 85-83. This wasn’t the same UMass team that lost to Fordham though, or the team that put up only 47 points against St.
Carl Pierre sat quietly at his locker, upset at over what had just transpired. The Massachusetts men’s basketball team had just finished a game vs. Saint Louis, but it was as if the Minutemen didn’t show up to play. UMass put up a season low 47 points, though Pierre had 13 points (second most for the Minutemen).
With the Massachusetts basketball team honoring Marcus Camby on Alumni Day, the Mullins Center filled with fans reliving the days of UMass’ past. After the Minutemen’s lackluster performance against St. Louis, Saturday afternoon, those same fans left wishing to go back to 1996. UMass seemed out of it, the fans seemed out of it and before you knew it, the Minutemen were trailing by 20 with only a couple of minutes left in the game.
